Bringing your dog to Detroit? These 10 Detroit hotels welcome dogs, from downtown boutique hotels with pup welcome kits to a Victorian inn in Midtown and a casino hotel with its own dog park. For each one we list the pet fee, the weight and pet limits and the house rules, taken from the hotel’s own website, and every stay is pinned on our Dog Fun Map (look for the slate-blue pins).
This guide contains affiliate booking links (marked “Book this stay”) through our partner Stay22. See our disclosure at the end.
Before you book: Pet fees and limits change, and most hotels have only a few pet-friendly rooms. Tell the hotel you’re bringing a dog when you book, and confirm the current fee with them. Service animals aren’t pets, so pet fees don’t apply to them.

Tips for staying in Detroit with a dog
- Match the hotel to your dog’s size. Element, Hotel David Whitney and the AC Bonstelle take one dog up to 40 lb. For a bigger dog, look at Shinola (no weight limit), the Inn on Ferry Street (75 lb) or MGM Grand (two dogs under 100 lb combined).
- Plan potty breaks downtown. In the Downtown Detroit Parks, dogs may relieve themselves only inside the Grand Circus and Capitol Park dog parks, not on the lawns or in planting beds. See our Detroit dog parks guide for off-leash spots near your hotel.
- Don’t plan on leaving your dog in the room. The Siren, Trumbull & Porter and MGM Grand (unless your dog is in a kennel or carrier) say pets can’t be left alone. Plan dinners at dog-friendly restaurants in Detroit instead.
- Budget for parking. Most downtown hotels are valet only, at about $40–$52 a night. MGM Grand has free self and valet parking for guests, Trumbull & Porter has secure on-site parking, and the Inn on Ferry Street includes parking in its destination fee.
- Pack for elevators and lobbies. A short leash and a secure harness make busy lobbies and elevators easier. See our elevator and city-walk harness guide, and bring a collapsible bowl for days out.

FAQ
Which Detroit hotels allow large dogs?
Shinola Hotel has no weight or breed limit for up to two dogs. The Inn on Ferry Street takes dogs up to 75 lb, and MGM Grand Detroit allows two dogs with a combined weight under 100 lb. Element, Hotel David Whitney and the AC Hotel at the Bonstelle cap dogs at 40 lb.
Which Detroit hotel has the lowest pet fee?
The Siren Hotel charges $45 per stay, and the Inn on Ferry Street charges $50 per stay. Per-night fees add up faster: the AC Hotel at the Bonstelle is $50 a night, and Trumbull & Porter is $50 a night but caps at $150 per stay.
Can I leave my dog alone in a Detroit hotel room?
Usually not. The Siren and Trumbull & Porter don’t allow pets to be left unattended, and MGM Grand Detroit allows it only if your dog is in a kennel or carrier. Ask your hotel about its rule before you book.
Which Detroit hotels are closest to a dog park?
Hotel David Whitney sits on Grand Circus Park, which has a fenced off-leash dog park. Shinola, the Detroit Foundation Hotel and Hotel Indigo are a short walk from the Grand Circus or Capitol Park dog parks. MGM Grand has its own outdoor dog park on the property, and Shinola guests get free access to Barkside.
Do Detroit hotels charge a fee for service animals?
No. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, service animals aren’t pets, so hotels can’t charge pet fees for them. Marriott, IHG and Trumbull & Porter say this on their hotel pages.
Disclosure: City Pups is reader-supported. “Book this stay” links go through our booking partner Stay22, and if you book through them we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. No hotel paid to be listed. Pet policies come from each hotel’s own website or its Marriott, IHG or MGM page, checked on October 30, 2026. Fees are listed as published at that time and may change, so confirm with the hotel when you book.
