Rules can change—confirm with Detroit Riverfront Conservancy before you go.

What to know

  • Leash: Dogs welcome on leash and under control. City rules generally cap leashes around 72 inches.

  • Hours: Typically 6 a.m.–10 p.m.

  • Parking: Riverfront parks have limited free lots; Dequindre Cut relies on street parking near entrances (Atwater, Lafayette, Gratiot, Wilkins, Mack). Freight Yard visitors often use the gravel lot at Wilkins & Orleans in Eastern Market.

  • Cleanup: Bag it and use trash cans—enforced and expected.

Tips

  • Start at the river for breeze, then duck into the Cut for shade and murals.

  • Bikes share the path—keep your dog close on the pedestrian side.

  • Seasonal Freight Yard vibes are fun for humans; keep pups out of crowded bar seating.
