Opened in 2023, Palmer Park’s roughly one-acre dog park gives north-end pups room to run—with trails and green space nearby once you’re ready to leash up again.

Rules can change—check City of Detroit Parks and Palmer Park Unleashed before you go.

What to know

  • Leash: Off-leash only inside the fenced dog park. Everywhere else in Palmer Park: leash required (often emphasized as a short leash).

  • Hours: Commonly 8 a.m.–10 p.m. or sunrise–sunset—follow posted hours.

  • Parking: Free parking at the 12th Precinct lot (~1441 W. Seven Mile). Do not park on Seven Mile or the grass.

  • Amenities: Water for people/pups, waste stations, shelters—still bring backup bags and water.

Tips

  • Skip aggressive or overstimulated visits; it’s a shared community space.

  • Pair the dog park with a leashed trail walk deeper in Palmer Park.

  • After rain, expect muddy paws—keep a towel in the car.
